UT3 computer upgrade

Hey guys
I bought UT3 yesterday but my computer can't handle it.
I found my graphics card specs and they are a bit underdone.
So if anyone knows a bit about computers and upgrading and stuff let me know cause its been a while since i researched all that and am just wondering whether it is worth getting a new graphics card or a whole new computer.
My specs are:
Dell Dimension 8300 Intel Pentium 4 3.00GHz
1Gig of Ram
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Graphics Card
I'm thinking a graphics card will do it but is it just a simple plug in or do i need other stuff

My computer is almost 2 years old but it runs UT3 without any dramas. I opened it this morning to test it out with a few other programs running (Photoshop, Word, iTunes, MSN Messenger and 4 tabs in Internet Explorer) and it chugged along when starting up UT3 and for another few minutes, then much to my surprise, it kicked into gear and ran smoothly from then on. Needless to say, UT3 runs and starts up perfectly when no other programs are up and running.

So as a point of reference:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.21 GHz
2GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO

This system was custom built in July 2006 and cost $2300 (including labour to build it). I'd suggest sourcing out a computer wholesaler type place - the store I went to in Brisbane was full of hardcore gamer staff who knew their stuff - much more helpful than the kids in Harvey Norman or the likes.

hey jules,

i'm in the same boat with my 3 year old dell precision laptop.

i'm not sure whether it's worth upgrading things or whether to just get a new computer.

please let me know how you go with this.

thanks for the feedback guys,
I bought a new graphics card with jodi on monday and it didn't work on either of our computers. Your computer is a good deal more advanced than mine kimberley but i'm still pretty sure my problem can be solved with a graphics card. Hopefully anyway, cause it will save me a couple of grand. Fruz, i've got a dell as well but mine is a desktop so it's a bit more flexible as far as adding and changing stuff goes. Still needs a bit of research but i'm tempted to just take my computer in and leave it with them until they have it sorted, and they can clean up all the crap while they are at it, just worried about losing all my pirated CAD programs (but don't tell anyone)
